how'd you get that blurred motion effect on the people?

Long exposure while people walking past, pretty easy thing to do.

is that done with a specific camera or...? I just have one camera (a canon sureshot that's more than 10 years old right now) and I'm an amateur at best with my pics, I think.

No, think of when you take a photo you are opening a sensor in a (digital) camera to the light. The length of time that hole you opened to the sensor determines how much light hits the sensor. Now imagine I leave that hole open for a long time, like 5 seconds, instead of the fraction of a second a normal photo 'click' would be. If the light moves within that 5 seconds, the sensor will be picking up the light moving in what looks like a trail, like the people in this photograph. Most cameras can do it.

Cool! Mine's not digital though (which is one of the reasons I love it), so would it still work? Or do I need to get a digital camera?

yes it will still work. Its the reason why youcan get blurry pictures if you shake the camera as you take a photo. Instead in this case the camera is still, but everything else is moving.

Is there a way I can do it without shaking the camera?

You're not supposed to shake the camera, the camera should be perfectly still on a tripod (or similar) while things in front of it move (like the people)
