Description
Perhaps the least known of all the castles I have visited in Japan. This is Oshi jyou, in Gyoda city of Saitama ken.
It's very far away from the closest JR station, from which I had to walk about an hour to get to as there are only 5 buses a day to the location. It's not exactly a very stately castle, but it was a scene of a huge battle where the defenders of 2000 conscrpted soldiers and around 600 samurai held off an attack from an army 24000 men strong. Impressive ay?

What a unique looking castle this is. Have to admit I hadn't heard of it either but that's a great story and photo
