This is my favourite shot from my recent trip around the west of Japan.

This is perhaps one of the rarest scenes one can see in Japan, and yet everyone looks out for something like this. This is a Shinto priest meditating under a stream of water. The most amazing thing I have seen in Japan.

I didn't want to disturb his meditation to ask if I can photograph him, so I asked his aide who was standing nearby, he said I could.

Inari shrine complex, Kyoto, Japan.

I dont have a problem with you using my photos as reference for a painting or drawing, but I would have exception if you were to use them as stock photos, or to simply copy them in a painting or drawing. Use them for reference or inspiration as much as you like though.

Yeah, it's a nice place, but so many people don't realise that Kyoto isn't unique in the way that it's full of temples and shrines. Almost anywhere you go in Japan is similar, just not as famous.

Kyootoo isn't magic only for its temples and shrines!
But also for its atmosphere: it's old and modern at the same time; there are "green" and palace in the same place!
i like it very much!

Wow, that for sure is a golden shot! I bet it must be hard to meditate when the water falls like this on your head!

heh yeah.. I'm sure it has some benefits though... or they wouldn't do it. Or are they just doing it because it looks cool? haha

You've never seen karate kid where they are sitting under a waterfall to meditate? or any samurai flick? It's a very famous cliché scene, but as you say very rare to actually see it.
