Yesterday and today I've attended the annual AIPP professional training convention held in my home town this year, and despite not learning all that much in the way of photography, I've been absolutely flabbergasted by the talent on display.
I've attended 5 lectures over the last 2 days, and it feels like I've been electrocuted out of my stupor that was my own unknown photographic bubble. I thought I was pretty good... I mean I wasn't making that much money, but far out..
The first of these speakers was Glenn Gibson www.bluefish.com.au who is responsible (among other things) for the digital and photographic assets of the Mazda, and some of the Nissan motor companies. An absolute genius when it comes to automotive photography and CGI.
Definitely made me want to get out and take some shots of my new car asap...
Directly after Glenn Gibson was Juliet Taylor www.juliettaylor.net/ who does very different work to what I do, but got to respect her for your passion.. she's incredible really.
Then this morning was something absolutely astounding. I was witness to modern day genius when David Burnett www.davidburnett.com/ gave his speech. If you don't know the name, then you will once you realise it was he who captured some of the most iconic photo journalistic scenes of our time. Utterly mind blowing this one man has seen and done.
That last one... yes it's the same naked girl as in this famous of famous vietnam photos. The stuff he shows on this website gallery pales in comparison with the work he demonstrated today. Astounding human being. Truly inspiring.
As amazing as David Burnett was, David Dare Parker www.daviddareparker.com/ also gave a talk, and he is the most humble, no bullshit guy I've ever met. He is who I want to be. This is a human being.
Truly, truly inspiring and humbling experience.
