I do love how the red of the torii gate contrasts so strongly with the rest of the image. The darker bits of the trees in the foreground really allow the snow-covered ones in the background to pop. The length [height-wise] of the image really gives the viewer the feeling of being there - it really lets your mind grasp how tall the trees are compared to the gate itself. I can almost feel them looming over me.

The only improvement I think you could make, is to center the gate in the image. I had an art teacher who always said that "centered things are boring", however, in this case I don't think this is true. There's a bit of brush that pushes up against the left side of the gate. It's a tiny bit distracting. I also think that the stairs behind the gate would look more presentable if they were centered. They almost look out of place, jutting off to the left like that. It also seems that at a slightly different angle, the lighting may have caught the shisa a bit better. If you're not looking for them, you almost can't tell that they're there.

Either way, I am very intrigued by this photograph! I love the subject matter and contrasting themes. I rarely right critiques, but I felt that this image was deserving.

Nice job!
